General Selection Procedure

The selection process can be defined as the process of selection and shortlisting of the right candidates with the necessary qualifications and skill set to fill the vacancies in an organisation. The selection process varies from industry to industry, company to company and even amongst departments of the same company.

An aptitude test is a way for employers to assess a candidate’s abilities through a variety of different testing formats. Aptitude tests will test your ability to perform tasks and react to situations at work. This includes problem-solving, prioritisation and numerical skills, amongst other things

This is one of the initial rounds in the placement procedure majorly conducted to check a variety of skills in students. A topic is given on the spot and candidates are supposed to speak in favour/against it. The idea is to test the ability of team work and cooperation within the organisation. Points are also given to initiate/end the discussion and come to a mutual consensus. It tests whether one is capable of presenting their opinion in a group of people and work cohesively with peers. However, this should not be confused with a debate and students certainly should not resort to shouting or any other unfair means.

During the technical interview, the interviewer will assess your technical knowledge, skills and abilities as they relate to the needs of the specific job you are applying to. In addition to assessing your technical knowledge and skills, the interviewer will also be looking for what your thought process is when solving problems and how you will fit into the company’s culture.

These questions may consist of traditional interview questions, brainteasers, technical proficiency tests and problem-solving questions.

Every company conducts an HR interview round to judge your personality, your strengths, your weaknesses, your capability to handle the role, to check your background, and to understand if you’re the right fit for this job. The HR round is generally the last round in the recruitment process of any company.
